Shravan is considered as the most important and holy month of the year for Hindus. Do you know the secret behind the name of this month? On the Purnima or full moon day the nakshatra 'Shravana' rules the sky, hence the month is called Shravan. Interestingly, each day of Sawan is regarded as having, showing or expressing reverence for a deity. Special prayers and rituals are performed in Lord Shiva temples throughout this month. Mondays or Somvars of Shravan month are specially observed with austerity for Lord Shiva. This month holds some famous religious festivals like - Naga-Panchami, Kalkyavatara, Putradaikadashi, ShravaniPurnima, RakshaBandhan, Vara Lakshmi Vrata, Rishi Panchami, Govatsa and almost all the days of this month are considered auspicious.
